Utila is the smallest of the three major islands that form the Bay Islands off the northern coast of Honduras. Famous for its coral reefs and world-class diving sites, the waters surrounding Utila are home to a vast array of marine life. In fact, Utila is one of the few places in the world where whale sharks have a chance of being seen year-round.
The island is also the home of the endangered spiny-tailed iguana and is in general a blissful place with a healthy balance of nightlife partying and daytime nature activities. Overall, the island attracts a younger and more relaxed crowd, somewhat in contrast to its larger, more developed and often more expensive neighbour, Roatan.
