Traveling through Zaragoza and Spain’s wine region

La Rioja, Spain

La Rioja, in the north of Spain, is the country’s biggest wine destination. The region produces around 300 million litres of wine a year and is the perfect place to spend a few days sipping the local vino tinto and tucking into some tapas.

Other than the countless, quaint, little villages spread around La Rioja, the area also attracts thousands of visitors every year as the famous Camino de Santiago pilgrimage passes through a few of its towns and villages, including through its capital city of Logroño.

On the way to La Rioja, we stopped off for a night in Zaragoza, famed for its gorgeous Basilica de Nuestra Señora del Pilar. Built predominantly in the 16th and 17th centuries, the basilica rises up between the River Ebro and the Plaza del Pilar in Zaragoza. With its colourful cupolas and impressive towers, it is easy to understand why it is considered the city’s crown jewel and such a wonderful example of Baroque architecture.
