Black Mountain

Montenegro

Measuring less than 14,000 square kilometres and with a population of just over 600,000 people, Montenegro is one of Europe’s smallest countries. Founded in May 2006, it is one of the six countries to have been created from the breakup of former Yugoslavia.

But please note; what the country lacks in size, it most certainly makes up for in variety. With its rugged mountains, medieval villages and its narrow strip of beaches along the Adriatic coast, the options for visitors in Montenegro are plentiful. And that’s of course without even having mentioned the country’s crown jewel; at 1300 metres deep, the staggering Tara River Canyon is a beast of nature and the deepest canyon in the whole of Europe.

Finally, it is worth noting that though the country may be tiny, its inhabitants most certainly are not, with Montenegrans, famed for being the world’s tallest people, as the average height for a man is nearly 186 cm and 171 cm for women.
