Antelope Canyon is a slot canyon found in Arizona and is divided into two sections known as Upper Antelope Canyon (The Crack) and Lower Antelope Canyon (The Corkscrew). A popular location for photographers, it has only been accessible to visitors since 1997, with the obligatory accompaniment of a licensed Navajo guide.
Photography within the canyon is challenging due to the wide exposure range made by light reflecting off the canyon walls. Add to that the fact that time permitted in the canyon is limited and Antelope Canyon offers an interesting challenge for visitors looking to take the best possible shots of this unique natural landscape.
The canyon was formed through millions of years of erosion from flash floods and winds. It is worth noting that summer colors in the canyon are stronger than the more muted winter ones, as direct sunlight radiates down into the openings of the canyon when the sun is high in the sky.
