Life in La Habana Vieja (The Old Town of Havana) needs to be lived to be truly understood. The energy, the music, the smells… La Habana is without a doubt a treat for the senses. It is an architectural masterpiece, where meticulously preserved squares and magnificent palaces, blend with hustling street vendors and screaming hawkers. Add to this the visual extravagance of Cuba’s perfectly-maintained classic cars and the background soundtrack of bolero, salsa and cha-cha-cha among others, and you may begin to get an idea.
The overall, result is a fiercely proud city of extreme contrasts. Both grand and gritty, inspiring and frustrating, fun and adventurous, yet chaotic and exhausting. And as I said; one that needs to be lived to be truly understood.
